About Story Blueprints…

Stories don’t fail because writers lack talent. They fail because structure, genre expectations, or scene mechanics aren’t fully working together. StoryBlueprints exists to help writers see why a story works—or doesn’t—and how to fix it with clarity and intention.

My work focuses on developmental editing and mentorship using the Story Grid methodology, a rigorous framework for analyzing story structure, genre, and scene craft. Whether you’re working through an early draft or revising a completed manuscript, I help you identify what’s on the page, what’s missing, and what changes will have the greatest impact.

I’m the author of the science fiction series The Time Rangers, and I understand firsthand the challenges of drafting, revising, and committing to large-scale story projects. I’ve spent nearly a decade studying Story Grid principles and applying them across my own work and the manuscripts I review. I also served as a judge for multiple independent science fiction writing contests (Whistler Independent, Valorious Awards, SPSFC), giving me broad exposure to common strengths—and recurring problems—across the genre.

As a Story Grid Writing Mentor, Through them, my role is not to rewrite your story or impose my voice on your work. Instead, I guide you through the underlying craft decisions that shape plot, character, pacing, and meaning. My feedback is analytical, specific, and collaborative, with the goal of helping you understand why a story choice succeeds or fails—so you can carry that insight forward into future drafts and projects.

How I Work

My editing approach is best suited for writers who want more than surface-level feedback. Using Story Grid tools, I focus on:

  • Big-picture structure and genre alignment

  • Scene-level turning points, value shifts, and causality

  • Character motivation and internal logic

  • Clarity of stakes, progression, and payoff

I work with both early drafts that need structural direction and finished manuscripts that require deeper revision. In all cases, the emphasis is on strengthening the story’s foundation rather than polishing sentences prematurely.

Mentorship & Story Grid

To start off… I am NOT a certified Story Grid Editor. I am a Story Grid Writing Mentor, Therefore, in addition to one-on-one editing, I work as a writing mentor for Story Grid Publications for authors who want ongoing guidance and craft development. Story Grid courses and resources, which are offered directly through Story Grid Publishing. These programs provide structured instruction and community support, and I’m happy to help writers determine whether they’re a good fit for that path.

StoryBlueprints is designed to complement—not replace—formal Story Grid education by providing individualized, manuscript-specific analysis and feedback.

Who This Is For

StoryBlueprints is a good fit if you:

  • Are serious about improving your storytelling craft

  • Are open to analytical, structure-focused feedback

  • Want to understand how and why revisions work

It may not be the right fit if you’re looking for ghostwriting, proofreading-only services, or validation without revision.
